I swear, it didn’t even occur to me that there were monuments to people who fought on the side of the Union in the Civil War until I moved up north of the Mason-Dixon. But then Grand Army Plaza was only a few blocks away when I first moved to the city, and now there is this monument — the Soldiers and Sailors — right in the neighborhood.
