Claire, Lucy and I couldn’t be more pleased to announce the birth of Sebastian Philippe Pakurar at 8:34 pm on Wednesday, May 6th. He was a big boy, weighing in at 8 pounds 13 ounces and measuring 21 inches long.
We’re slow in getting this official announcement out — it’s been almost a week since the birth — and we’re sorry about that. It’s been a hectic week, but a good one. We’re all exhausted, of course, trying to figure out how to make a family of four work, and integrating a new brother into Lucy’s life. But at the end of the day, Sebastian is pretty agreeable. And cute! Don’t take our word for it though:
“Sebastian” is a whole lot of name for such a little boy, but we love it. We’re trying out lots of nicknames for him — Seb, Sebby, Bastian, little man, Des (as in, you know, Lucy and Desi?). Have any other suggestions? We’ll have to see what sticks. His middle name comes from his 91-year-old French grandfather, who thinks the world of him.
Lucy has been amazing with her brother — very gentle, very loving — better than we could have asked. She’s acting out in other ways with Claire and me, but I guess that’s to be expected? Who could have guessed that the manner in which a piece of cheese is eaten could provoke such a tantrum? (As a corollary, we’re really impressed with anyone who has been brave enough to venture into the abyss of three or more children. How can anyone possibly retain their sanity with more than two children?)
There has been an absolute ton of love and support from all of you — thank you. It makes the too-short nights more bearable. There are more pictures from the last week here, and more to come, I’m sure.
(And if you’re into astrology, have a look at his chart. Taurus with Scorpio rising. Not sure what that means just yet — we’ll get back to you.)
